Carpooling to and from Work
Now, instead of driving their vehicles everywhere that they need to go, they are opting to hitch a ride with friends, co-workers or relatives. It turns out that it is significantly cheaper to carpool with others than it is to drive yourself everywhere that you need to go. In a way, you could say that it is sort of like having your own personalized taxi service in which everyone contributes some money towards gasoline. This is a great option for those who are trying to save a little cash as well as for those who are concerned with putting all of those additional miles on their vehicle.
In just one day of driving around the area that I live in, I can easily put anywhere between fifty to seventy miles on my car. Part of this is due to the fact that I live in a more rural area in which everything is more spread out. However, when I go out of the state to visit my parents on Long Island, everything is within walking distance (or close to it). Therefore, I don’t wind up putting quite as many miles on my car driving around. A lot of whether or not carpooling is a good idea for you and your situation depends on just that: your situation. For instance, you may commute to work every day only to realize that there are several people in your office building who live in the same housing development or apartment complex as you. For many people, they realize that there are several people whom they work with that live in the same area of town that they live in.
Carpooling is a highly effective way to save money on gasoline expenditure as well as unnecessary money that is sometimes spent on other expenses related to your vehicle such as oil changes, tire troubles, etc. As one would probably guess correctly, the less you drive your vehicle, the more likely it is to last longer and have fewer problems. As a result of the increase price of gasoline as well as the overall expense of driving, many people have switched to carpooling as well as other forms of transportation that allow them to save money. For example, in the area that I live in, there are many people who have switched to riding their bicycles to work. The first time that I saw any evidence of this, I was driving to the grocery store during rush hour when I saw two gentlemen wearing business suits with laptop bags slung over their shoulders. They were wearing bicycle helmets and appeared as though they were heading to work.
While riding a bicycle to work may not appeal to many people, it is something that many employers are taking into consideration and making amends for. There are businesses that are only just beginning to encourage this trend that would allow employees to gain more exercise as well as be eco friendly.
