Question by G: How do I get acrylic paint off a helmet?
I painted my daughter’s helmet for a school play, and I want the safest and surest way to get the paint off without ruining the helmet’s finish if that’s possible. Thanks in advance!

You can use acetone or nail polish remover. You can get that anywhere from walmart to sallies but the problem is these solvents might take the original pigment of the helmet… So test a small area first before you dive in. Good luck!

If it’s a fiberglass helmet, use a heat gun carefully. The heat will loosen and shrink the latex paint and you’ll be able to lift off in sheets. If it’s a plastic helmet, use a hair dryer the same way (cooler heat). If the paint is fairly fresh, it’ll lift right off.
If it’s shiny plastic, you may be able to just scrape it off with your fingernail.
If the helmet was a bike helmet of sports helmet don’t even try to remove the paint — any solvent or scratches on the helmet will render the helmet useless if she falls or gets hit by an object as these helmets were built and then tested by safety agencies to provide safety without any modifications to ensure the wearer did not suffer from major injuries– BUY A NEW HELMET– I inspect this type of product for a living– don’t take the chance–PLEASE
