Question by halogirl95: Is it strange to wear a skateboard helmet for snowboarding?
I am going snowboarding, and renting all of my equipment at the place.
(I don’t go often enough to make it worth purchasing my own equipment). I’ve done my research, and many people say it’s better to wear a helmet. So my question is, would it be strange to wear a skateboard helmet to the slopes? Would it be better to rent an actual snowboarding helmet?

I know people who wear a skate helmet for snowboarding. It will provide adequate protection for your dome.
Snow helmets offer a few advantages over skate helmets. They are better insulates. Your head won;t be as cold, they have earflaps to keep your ears warm (some have built-in speakers), the vents have screens to keep snow from getting in. They have goggle retaining clips to keep the goggles from flying off if you crash.
Some companies (giro?) make a convertable skate to snow helmet. Might be a good investment if you need a new skate helmet.

Just came back from Vermont, outstanding.
There are a couple of differences between the ski/snowboard helmets and others.
1) the ski/snowboard has no holes in the outer shell through which snow can enter, melt and make your head cold.
2) the ski/snowboard helmet has a strap in the back that holds your goggle strap at the back of your head from sliding (the plastic is slick) off which would cause you to loose your goggles.
Enjoy.
